Unified directory of Phuket - Laguna Phuket Triathlon Bike Course by White and Wong The Laguna Phuket Triathlon is Asia's premier destination triathlon featuring a unique 1.8K swim, 55K bike and 12K run through spectacular tropical scenery. Over the past sixteen years the popular race has attracted thousands of age group athletes as well as triathlon legends Mark Allen, Greg Welch, Craig Alexander, Paula Newby-Fraser, Michellie Jones and Chrissie Wellington, to name just a few. This scenic bike course takes athletes out of Laguna Phuket onto a unique tour of the northern part of Phuket. Recently, a few changes have been made to the course, with the most considerable being the elimination of the out and back section on the 402 highway due to traffic concerns. To make up for the lost distance there, the so-called Ban Don loop, a 7k loop toward the end of the bike course is being used for the first time since 2006. The course features the signature Naithon Hills with their steep challenging sections. Drafting is illegal. Suggested equipment includes a minimum of two water bottle cages. Athletes should consider a 24-28 tooth rear cassettes to ease the difficulty of hill climbs. Some of the road surfaces may be rough and athletes should use durable tires.
